What Amadeus is and which entity this profile covers

Amadeus IT Group, S.A. is the Spanish parent of a technology group serving the travel industry. Its registered office is at Salvador de Madariaga, 1, Madrid. The accounts date this legal entity’s incorporation and registration to 4 February 2005, while the Amadeus business dates back to 1987. These dates describe different things. The financial figures in this profile cover the parent and its consolidated subsidiaries. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 17. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 23.

Its customers include airlines, airports, hotels, agencies, intermediaries and travel buyers. Its systems connect supply, search, reservations, ticketing, payments and operations. Amadeus provides technology to these businesses: booking volumes are neither the sales value of the travel purchased nor a count of unique travelers. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 18.

From four airlines to a technology platform

Air France, Iberia, Lufthansa and SAS founded Amadeus in 1987. Its corporate timeline dates the first booking to 1992 and the first stock-market listing to 1999. Launching airline IT in 2000 expanded a business initially focused on distribution. After going private in 2005, Amadeus returned to the stock market in 2010. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 22.

Acquisitions explain much of its diversification. Newmarket in 2014 and TravelClick in 2018 strengthened hospitality; Navitaire, acquired in 2016, expanded its low-cost airline technology. Vision-Box and Voxel joined in 2024, followed by ForwardKeys in 2025. This sequence shows how the group added operations, payments and travel-intelligence capabilities alongside distribution. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 23.

Ownership, parent and subsidiaries

Amadeus is a listed company in the IBEX 35. Its origins in four airlines do not describe its current ownership. The 2025 report shows approximately 95.6% free float, 4.3% treasury shares and 0.01% held by board members. These are year-end share-capital categories, not stakes to be attributed to the founders. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 8.

The organization combines operating companies and commercial products. For example, the accounts identify Amadeus S.A.S. in France for software development and definition, and Amadeus GmbH in Germany for data processing, both wholly owned in 2025. A commercial solution’s name should not automatically be treated as a separate legal subsidiary. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 90. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 93.

How it earns revenue and connects the travel chain

Its business depends on transactions and the technology services customers use. Distribution connects supplier content with agencies and other sellers. Airline IT supports processes such as reservations, inventory and departure control. Hospitality and transversal solutions extend the chain through hotel systems, corporate travel and payments. These are different functions even when they contribute to the same journey. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 20.

In 2025, Air Distribution generated approximately €3,119 million of revenue, Air IT Solutions €2,346 million, and Hospitality & Transversal Solutions €1,052 million. These rounded group figures sum to its €6,517 million revenue; they are not three additional companies whose sales should be added to that total again. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 9.

Recognizable systems and solutions

Altéa and Navitaire New Skies are prominent airline systems. The corporate passengers-boarded metric covers flights operated by airlines using at least Altéa Reservation and Inventory or New Skies. In 2025, it recorded 2,249 million passenger boardings and 484 million air bookings processed by agencies through its distribution platforms. These are technology activity measures with different definitions. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 8.

Cytric serves corporate travel and expense management. Outpayce develops payment services: Xchange Payment Platform orchestrates payment acceptance and connects providers, while B2B Wallet supports intermediary-to-supplier payments using virtual cards. These product functions are separate from the occupational health of people developing or using them. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 52. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 20.

Madrid and an international technology network

The Spanish registered office is part of a workforce spread across more than 100 offices. At 31 December 2025, France had 4,560 employees, India 4,211, Spain 2,098, the United States 1,961 and Germany 1,181. These are employee headcounts by country, not full-time equivalents or numbers of system users. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 26.

The accounts locate software development in Sophia Antipolis and data processing in Erding, among other international operations. This distributed footprint makes the distinction between global policies and local delivery important: a health benefit at one office does not establish its availability in every country. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 93. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 90.

2025 revenue and results

The consolidated accounts for January–December 2025, prepared under EU-adopted IFRS, report revenue of €6,517.0 million, operating income of €1,758.4 million and total profit of €1,335.6 million. Profit attributable to owners of the parent was slightly different, at €1,335.7 million, because non-controlling interests accounted for a €0.1 million loss. Amadeus: 2025 consolidated financial statements, p. 12.

Selection by size uses consolidated revenue. The group’s adjusted profit of €1,420.2 million and net financial debt of €2,141.4 million follow other definitions and do not replace that measure. Its update published on 6 November 2026 reports €5,075.7 million revenue for January–September 2026, a partial period that does not replace the latest complete financial year. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 9. Amadeus: January–September 2026 results.

Employees, FTEs and social dialogue

At the end of 2025, the group reported 20,605 employees by headcount: 20,542 permanent and 63 temporary, in controlled companies. The global report also gives a total workforce of 21,470 FTEs for wholly owned companies, a differently described unit and scope. The non-financial statement separately identifies 1,228.4 non-employee FTEs. These measures are not added together or presented as equivalent headcounts. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 77. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 8. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 101.

Global collective-bargaining coverage was 40.1% in 2025. The report places differences in the context of national frameworks and major European sites. In Spain, the equality plan was updated in 2025 with employee-representative participation and committee monitoring. These documented actions do not, by themselves, establish effective equality across every role or country. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 101. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 113.

R&D, cloud and artificial intelligence

Amadeus reported gross R&D investment of €1,453 million in 2025, approximately 22% of revenue. This is the group’s published gross-investment measure, not a statement that the whole amount is research expense in the income statement. The company links investment to product and AI development, customer implementations, cloud migration and internal systems. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 9.

Agreements with Microsoft in 2021 and Google Cloud in 2025 form part of that trajectory. Assessing their effects requires separating technology adoption from outcomes: a partnership, AI capability or commercial deployment does not automatically establish lower mental workload, fewer human errors or improved occupational safety. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 22.

Leadership checked on 8 November 2026

The corporate website identifies William Connelly as board chairman and Luis Maroto Camino as executive director; Maroto’s profile identifies him as President and CEO. These are different board-oversight and executive-management roles. The published board has twelve members, eleven independent. Amadeus: current board membership. Amadeus: Luis Maroto profile.

How occupational health and safety is organized

The 2025 documentation describes a health and safety policy and local responsibilities for procedures, risks and measures at each entity. Policies encompass employees, contractors and visitors, but management-system coverage measured by employee headcount was 91.6%, against 86.5% in 2024. The calculation excludes subsidiaries representing 0.4% of employees. System coverage is not equivalent to group-wide ISO 45001 certification. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 111.

Digital-disconnection policies exist, for example, in Spain, Portugal, France and Belgium. They recognize employees’ right not to answer work communications outside working hours, subject to force majeure or exceptional circumstances. These are policies at specified entities and are not automatically attributed to every site. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 108. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 108.

Specific measures: mental health and medical support

In France, Mental Well-being brings together staff, managers, People & Culture, unions, doctors, psychologists and social workers to identify mental-health risks and plan prevention. The “we care” program adds preventive-health activities. In Spain, Wellbeing Works organizes emotional, physical and professional health initiatives. The documentation describes local programs and their aims; it does not demonstrate a causal reduction in accidents or disorders. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 110.

The report documents a weekly general-practitioner service at the Spanish office, confidential assistance and short-term counseling at numerous sites, and trained mental-health first aiders at UK locations. It also records over 640 participants in 2025 global well-being sessions and over 1,169 unique participants from 36 countries in the mental-health event. Participation and support availability are activity indicators, not clinical outcomes. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 109.

Reported accidents and comparison limits

In 2025, 69 work-related accidents were recorded, compared with 44 in 2024, with a rate of 1.93 per million hours actually worked, up from 1.19. Days lost due to work-related injuries and fatalities rose from 696 to 1,291. The company attributes the accident increase mainly to incidents reported in Asia-Pacific and France. It reported zero employee work-related fatalities and zero recorded occupational-illness cases in both years. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 112.

The table excludes subsidiaries representing 0.9% of employees. The GRI index says injury information for non-employee workers is unavailable. The zero figures therefore cannot be extended to the entire contractor chain. The global report separately identifies 65 injuries and one non-fatal high-consequence injury: accidents and injuries are different fields, not interchangeable counts. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 164. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 172.

What the case contributes to prevention

Sabentis’ editorial interpretation is that a technology workplace needs to combine work organization, disconnection, participation and support services. The French and Spanish examples show how a policy becomes teams and programs. Rising accident counts also make outcome assessment essential: an activity calendar or favorable satisfaction scores do not establish that risks are controlled. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 109.

Mental workload in digital work and coordination across countries are prevention-analysis topics, not diagnoses of harm attributed here to Amadeus. Likewise, the security of a booking, payment or border-control process is not an occupational health and safety indicator for its employees. Keeping these dimensions separate avoids conflating service quality, cybersecurity and worker protection.

Sustainability: separating operations and targets

Project Helios includes a geothermal installation inaugurated in 2025 at the Nice offices. The company published expected annual reductions of 61% in heating and cooling energy consumption and 30% in water consumption. Inauguration is a completed action; those percentages are published expectations, not measured annual savings presented here as achieved. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 107.

For 2030, the group targets a 42% reduction in absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions and a 25% reduction in Scope 3 emissions against 2022. In 2025 it recalculated and revalidated targets following acquisitions and methodological changes. Environmental targets and travel-impact information require assessment within their own boundaries; they do not replace evaluation of workers’ health and safety. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 107.

Challenges in interpreting its development

Travel volumes, changes in distribution and technology migrations shape the business. The 2025 report assigns part of its investment to implementations, cloud and new capabilities. The editorial interpretation is that service continuity and the ability to execute these changes matter alongside announcements: each result needs a defined period, measure and scope. Amadeus: 2025 global report, p. 9.

For working conditions, the coexistence of specific programs and rising accidents requires a balanced reading. The case provides evidence of measures and metrics, with declared exclusions. It does not establish that corporate well-being has eliminated risk, or that one year’s incidents alone demonstrate failure across all programs. Amadeus: 2025 non-financial and sustainability statement, p. 112.

Frequently asked questions

Is Amadeus a Spanish company?

Yes. Amadeus IT Group, S.A. is registered in Madrid and is the consolidated group’s parent. Its operations and workforce are international; Spanish domicile does not mean all revenue or employees are in Spain. [1] · [2]

Why do both 1987 and 2005 appear?

1987 is the origin of the business founded by four airlines. The accounts give 4 February 2005 as the incorporation and registration date of today’s Amadeus IT Group, S.A. These dates describe different events. [1] · [2]

How many employees did Amadeus have in 2025?

It reported 20,605 employees in controlled companies at 31 December 2025, measured as people. The global report’s 21,470 total-workforce FTEs are a different measure; they should not be called 21,470 employees or added to the headcount. [1] · [2]

Which occupational-health measures are documented?

Examples include Mental Well-being in France, Wellbeing Works in Spain, confidential assistance and disconnection policies in specified countries. Documentation identifies locations and activities; it does not prove universal implementation or a causal reduction in accidents. [1]

Did it record zero accidents in 2025?

No. It reported 69 work-related accidents and a rate of 1.93 per million hours. Zero refers to employee fatalities and recorded occupational-illness cases within the reported scope, which excludes subsidiaries with 0.9% of employees. The GRI index states that non-employee injury information is unavailable. [1] · [2]

Have Project Helios savings already been demonstrated?

The report documents inauguration of the Nice geothermal installation in 2025. It describes 61% lower heating and cooling energy consumption and 30% lower water use as expected outcomes. This profile retains that forward-looking status. [1]

  • Right to disconnect. Provides Spanish context for the disconnection policy Amadeus documents in Spain, distinguishing formal recognition of the right from its application in work organization.
  • Psychosocial risk assessment. Helps place France’s Mental Well-being program within identification, participation and prevention processes, without equating well-being activities with risk assessment or clinical outcomes.
  • Cognitive ergonomics. Provides criteria for analyzing mental workload, interfaces and information-based work in a technology business; this is an editorial reading suggestion, not an attribution of undocumented ergonomic measures to Amadeus.
