Identity and headquarters

Bonpreu is the usual commercial name of Grup Bon Preu, a Spanish retail group based in Les Masies de Voltregà, Barcelona. Its operating company, Bon Preu, S.A.U., tax identifier A08665838, lists its central office at kilometre 73 of the C-17 road. This profile uses group figures published in its annual report; it does not assign them solely to the operating company or add individual banner sales again. The electricity contract itself identifies Bon Preu, S.A.U. as the supplier: BonpreuEsclat Energia is a business brand, not a foreign parent company. Bon Preu: legal identity and address; Bon Preu: electricity supply contract, p. 1; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 10.

Origins and business development

The first Bonpreu supermarket opened in Manlleu in 1974. The business joined the IFA purchasing group in 1982 and opened its first Esclat in Vilafranca del Penedès in 1988. Diversification continued with the first EsclatOil petrol station, in Malla in 1995, and the launch of the bonpreu own label in 2001. These are commercial milestones; 1974 is not presented as the incorporation date of the current legal entity. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 5.

Family ownership and legal structure

The ACCID case study, prepared by UPF academics using information supplied by Bon Preu, records that Joan Font bought his brother Josep’s 50% holding in 2019. This is historical evidence of family control. For the more recent legal structure, the August 2026 BORME entry records that Bon Preu’s sole shareholder is now named Bon Preu Holding, S.L. That entry establishes the direct shareholder’s name; it does not by itself reconstruct every individual’s beneficial ownership percentage in 2026. ACCID/UPF: Bon Preu case study, 2021, p. 1; BORME: Bon Preu sole shareholder, entry 364574, August 2026.

Group management and the legal company chair

The 2025 annual report is introduced by Joan Font i Fabregó as the group’s president and general manager. This corporate role must be distinguished from the chair of Bon Preu’s legal company board: the September 2026 BORME records the appointment of Baloo d’Inversions, S.L., replacing Bon Preu Holding, S.L. The distinction avoids assigning to an individual a registered appointment held by a legal entity. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 4; BORME: Bon Preu chair, entry 421978, September 2026.

Activities, banners and products

The group combines food retail through Bonpreu, Esclat and BonpreuEsclat online; fuel through EsclatOil; and electricity retail through BonpreuEsclat Energia. Its food range includes manufacturer brands and own-label products. Meat, bakery, delicatessen, fish and fruit counters require product knowledge, preparation skills and personal service. The annual report describes analytical checks and audits of own-label suppliers; these food-quality practices are not occupational safety certification. Bonpreu: FY2025 results, June 2026; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 52; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 69.

Retail network and geographical reach

The 2025 report counts 140 Bonpreu supermarkets and 63 Esclat stores: 203 across the two banners. It also lists 68 petrol stations, 17 minimarkets and 30 online collection points. These activity categories may share locations and should not be added as independent buildings. Food retail expansion is concentrated in Catalonia, while electricity retail is offered throughout Spain. The August 2026 announcement already lists 64 Esclat stores and 70 petrol stations, an update after the annual reporting date. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 9; Bonpreu: construction starts in Montblanc, August 2026.

FY2025 net sales and comparability limits

The latest complete published financial year is FY2025, which closed on 28 February 2026. The annual report explicitly identifies group net sales of €2,611.5 million, against €2,420.6 million in 2024, with reported growth of 7.9%. The scope comprises food, fuel and electricity. This primary group figure is used for selection, without presenting the corporate report as audited consolidated financial statements or treating reserves in its economic distribution table as net profit. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 10; Bonpreu: FY2025 results, June 2026.

Investment and new logistics centres

Reported investment in 2025 was €150 million, covering the store network, refurbishment, logistics and strategic projects. In August 2026, Bonpreu announced that construction had started on its Montblanc centre: €34.6 million planned for the first phase, including dry-goods and fresh-food warehouses of 26,500 and 13,600 m². Opening is planned for the first half of 2028, serving Camp de Tarragona, Terres de l’Ebre and Ponent. This is announced future investment and is not added to expenditure incurred in 2025. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 10; Bonpreu: FY2025 results, June 2026; Bonpreu: construction starts in Montblanc, August 2026.

Digital retail and automation

The Ocado partnership began in 2017 and the service based on in-store fulfilment launched in 2018. In June 2025, the two businesses announced an automated customer fulfilment centre in Parets del Vallès. The source presents it as a project, separate from Montblanc, and does not establish that it had opened by the review date. The annual report also describes Energeni, introduced in 2025 to display electricity consumption and spending in the app. These are commercial and operational initiatives; they do not by themselves demonstrate a reduction in occupational injuries. Ocado: automated centre planned with Bon Preu, June 2025; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 64.

Workforce and work organisation

At the FY2025 close, the group employed 11,868 people: 8,608 full-time and 3,260 part-time. These are headcounts, not full-time equivalents or an annual average. The five-workday, two-rest-day model is described for stores opening Monday to Saturday throughout the year; it should not automatically be extended to the entire workforce. Similarly, flexible hours and up to two days of weekly remote work concern office teams, not store or warehouse tasks. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 49; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 50.

Training and retail skills

The annual report records 157,520 training hours and 55,066 attendances in 2025. One person may attend more than once, and the total includes commercial, leadership and induction training: it does not mean 55,066 different employees or exclusively safety training hours. The four retail schools in Barcelona, Malla, Valls and Palafrugell teach product knowledge, handling, cutting and counter service. Induction includes workplace safety. The reported dual-training programme uses temporary training contracts and offers permanent employment to successful completers, qualifying any absolute reading of the permanent-recruitment policy. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 52; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 53.

Occupational safety organisation

Bonpreu describes a shared occupational prevention service and quarterly meetings of its cross-site health and safety committee, advised by that service. In 2025 it reviewed and updated its management system with reference to ISO 45001. The report’s wording does not by itself establish an external certificate, its validity or a percentage of certified sites. It also reports follow-up of an accident-reduction plan and investigation of accidents and incidents by prevention specialists, using Delta/Conta. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 54.

Ergonomics and logistics prevention

The Lesió zero programme was expanded for logistics-platform staff, using applied physiotherapy, manual therapy and warm-up, stretching and strengthening routines. The name expresses the programme’s goal; it is not a recorded injury count. The report also describes specific ergonomic studies to assess risks and propose workplace measures, alongside initial assessments at new sites and periodic updates. Together these allow consideration of both task design and physical support, without assigning an unpublished quantitative effectiveness result. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 54; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 55.

Psychosocial assessment and follow-up

Psychosocial risks were reassessed across all workplaces in 2025. A total of 9,057 people participated, representing 83% of the workforce at the time of the survey, and a working group was created to propose measures and monitor implementation. That time-specific denominator is not necessarily the closing workforce of 11,868 people. BP Prevenció supports management in stores, logistics centres and central services; the report also describes follow-up of self-inspections, drills and planned preventive measures. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 55.

Contractors, emergencies and health

The group reports exchanging and reviewing prevention documentation from companies working at its premises and introducing a new platform for this process. It also reviews PPE by job and task, tests suitability and comfort, prepares emergency plans and drills, and trains site managers. Health surveillance includes initial and periodic examinations, checks for particularly vulnerable workers and return-to-work examinations after long absences. These documented activities do not establish that every contractor is certified or that no accidents occurred. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 54; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 55.

What the source establishes about safety outcomes

The annual report’s health and safety pages describe organisation and activities, but do not provide an annual accident total, frequency rate, fatalities or occupational disease figures with a defined scope and denominator. This profile therefore does not assign a zero value or compare its accident performance with other companies. Psychosocial assessment participation and training hours are activity indicators, not substitutes for safety outcomes. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 53; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 54; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 55.

Energy, resources and environmental targets

In 2025 the group reported 84 photovoltaic installations with 15,190 kWp, including twelve added during the year. Annual generation was 16,922,465 kWh, of which 16,308,119 kWh was used for self-consumption. It also reported donating 382,948 kg of food in good condition to social organisations. These are generation and donation quantities; they are not calculated avoided emissions or a demonstrated total reduction in food waste. Its roadmap sets 2030 targets of a 55% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions and 25% in Scope 3 against 2022: these are future goals, not outcomes achieved in 2025. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 42; Bonpreu: FY2025 results, June 2026; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 29.

A narrowly defined regulatory record

As a historical regulatory matter, the CNMC fined Bon Preu, S.A.U. €1,800 in December 2015 for failing to submit mandatory fuel-price information for six weeks in 2014. The decision separated that failure from an incorrect 2013 submission, which it found time-barred. The company had acknowledged a failure to observe the requirement. This was a reporting-obligations case of limited scope and amount; it does not establish current conduct or a penalty for collusive price fixing. CNMC: decision SNC/DE/0022/15, December 2015, p. 9; CNMC: decision SNC/DE/0022/15, December 2015, p. 10; CNMC: decision SNC/DE/0022/15, December 2015, p. 12.

Does the report prove ISO 45001 certification?

Not by itself. It describes reviewing the prevention system against the standard without identifying a certificate, validity period or certified coverage. That section also does not publish a comparable annual accident series. Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 54; Bonpreu: 2025 annual report, p. 55. [1]

Is the Montblanc centre already operating?

The August 2026 announcement reports the start of construction and plans operation in the first half of 2028. This profile treats it as a construction project, separate from the automated centre announced with Ocado in Parets del Vallès. Bonpreu: construction starts in Montblanc, August 2026; Ocado: automated centre planned with Bon Preu, June 2025. [1] · [2]
