A Spanish company and a European group

Campofrío Food Group, S.A.U. is a food company domiciled in Spain and part of Sigma. Campofrío also names a meat-products brand. The company, its European subsidiaries and the Mexican multinational are different reporting scopes: the 2025 results announcement expressly identifies Campofrío Food Group and its subsidiaries as Sigma in Europe.

The published registered address is Avenida de Europa 24, Alcobendas, Madrid. The sites page places the operational head office in San Sebastián de los Reyes. Both references retain their respective functions; an office address is not treated as proof of a change in registered domicile.

Burgos, 1952 and industrial development

The corporate history dates its origins in Burgos to 1952 and associates them with José Luis Ballvé. The company explains that it diversified into processed meat products eight years later. In 2008, it established its Food Service division in Spain to serve hospitality businesses.

Sigma’s timeline records its acquisition of full ownership of Campofrío in 2015 and the opening of a Spanish factory in 2016 to replace the facility destroyed by fire in 2014. These milestones illustrate both international integration and the importance of industrial continuity in its development.

Ownership and the distinction from Sigma

The subsidiary table in Sigma Foods’ 2025 consolidated accounts includes Campofrío Food Group, S.A., incorporated in Spain, with a 100% ownership interest. Its note describes holdings in business-group parents and in their companies; it does not establish that every holding is directly owned by the Mexican listed company.

Sigma Foods is the name adopted by the former ALFA in December 2025. This profile focuses on Campofrío’s European business and documented activities in Spain, without assigning the multinational’s entire revenue, workforce or safety performance to Campofrío.

Products, brands and channels

The Spanish range includes cooked ham, turkey, sausages, charcuterie, pizzas, snacks and plant-based alternatives. The website identifies ranges such as Pavofrío, Finíssimas, Cuida-T+, Vegalia and Snack’IN, alongside Campofrío Health Care and Smart Solutions offerings for dietary needs and foodservice.

Sigma’s reported European portfolio includes Campofrío, Navidul, Revilla, Aoste, Justin Bridou and Nobre, among others. Brands serve local habits and channels; inclusion in a portfolio does not make each commercial name a separate legal company.

Campofrío: products and brands · Sigma: Campofrío 2025 results, 29 July 2026.

From industrial processing to the consumer

The model combines manufacturing, product development and sales through retail distribution and foodservice. Differentiation rests on recipes, formats, convenience and brand recognition. Campofrío Frescos contributes to the meat raw-material supply chain, while the processed-food business adapts those materials to different products and uses.

This chain brings together commercial and production decisions with distinct consequences: quality and food safety protect consumers; occupational prevention must address the tasks and exposures of the people producing, maintaining, handling and distributing food.

Facilities and recovery of capacity

The 2024 documentation identifies sites in Burgos, Trujillo, Torrijos, Torrent, Ólvega and Villaverde. This is a dated reference: the Torrent plant suffered severe damage in the October 2024 floods, and its subsequent position requires separate treatment.

The third-quarter 2026 report states that La Bureba’s bacon lines were operating at stable levels and that construction of the new Valencia facility was progressing, with operations expected to begin in mid-2027. An expected opening is not presented as an already operating plant.

2025 revenue and reporting scope

The corporate announcement of 29 July 2026 reports consolidated revenue of €2,112 million for Campofrío Food Group and its subsidiaries in 2025, compared with €2,123 million in 2024. For the individual accounts in Spain, it reports €1,113 million, compared with €1,107 million.

Selection by size uses European consolidated revenue. The Spanish individual figure represents another level of analysis and is not added to it. The source is the company’s announcement about its accounts; it does not mean that Campofrío’s complete financial audit report has been reviewed here.

Sigma: Campofrío 2025 results, 29 July 2026.

Profitability and insurance effects

Sigma reports normalised European EBITDA of €82.9 million for 2025, excluding insurance compensation for the damage at Torrent. Consolidated net profit was €40.1 million; the company states that excluding the identified non-recurring effects would have resulted in a €31.2 million loss.

This distinction prevents an accounting recovery influenced by compensation and exchange differences from being read as an operational improvement of the same size. Normalised EBITDA is a corporate measure whose definition must be preserved; it does not replace revenue.

Work, training and workforce information

Campofrío describes training adapted to technical, production and sales roles, individual development plans and methods including Total Productive Maintenance —TPM— and Agile. These are company-published practices; their existence alone does not demonstrate a specific prevention outcome.

The corporate pages reviewed give differing workforce references without a consistent reporting date. This profile therefore does not present a 2025 employee total or use those references as an injury denominator. Stroke-response training, by contrast, has a documented participant count and date.

Management identified in 2026

The corporate announcement of 24 September 2026 about the ADO agreement identifies Javier Dueñas as CEO of Campofrío Spain. This is a Spanish-business role; it is distinct from the management of Sigma Foods and from the full set of European corporate governing bodies.

The same announcement identifies Claire Pinel as Marketing Director of Campofrío Spain. These roles are stated with their evidence date, without assigning technical OSH responsibilities or legal appointments not established by that source.

RACU and product development

Campofrío describes its RACU model —Rápido y Curioso— as a sequence of consumer empathy, needs definition, ideation, prototype refinement and testing. Its industrial purpose is to connect user needs with feasibility and validation before launch.

The company describes Campofrío Health Care collaborations to adapt foods to different levels of dysphagia and an internal R&D sensory panel. These are examples of food innovation; they are not presented as medical treatments or as solutions to employees’ occupational risks.

Company-specific OSH: the Torrent ERGOPAR case

The Torrent plant’s presentation of 16 September 2011 documents ERGOPAR on line 13, involving 21 workers, seven per shift. Tasks included cutting, weighing and adjustment, packaging, boxing and palletising. Previous assessments had identified ergonomic problems.

The Ergo Group included prevention representatives, supervisors, occupational health and prevention personnel, supported by ISTAS and INVASSAT specialists. ISTAS dates the method’s pilot validation to 2010–2011 and names Campofrío among the participating companies. This is a specific historical case, not an audit of current conditions across every plant.

Posture, repetition and manual handling

The Torrent case identified bending and twisting of the neck and trunk, standing with little movement, high reaches, repetitive hand and wrist movements and manual handling. The analysis connected these exposures to collecting pork belly, knife trimming, feeding the slicer and removing material for reprocessing.

The prevention circle agreed proposals including container-lifting aids, improved transfer to the slicer and reviews of supports, gloves and procedures. The presentation distinguishes proposals from implementation: simpler measures had been completed with the committee, while others remained under consideration because of space, cost and productivity constraints.

Training to respond to a stroke

In June 2024, Campofrío announced the extension of the Espacio Cerebroprotegido programme to its production sites, sales branches and offices in Spain. Fundación Freno al Ictus confirms in its 2024 report that 930 people were trained to identify and respond to these emergencies.

The documented scope is the training and recognition described in 2024. It is not ISO 45001 certification, does not establish zero injuries and does not itself demonstrate reduced mortality. Nor does it automatically extend to a future plant or subsequently added facilities.

What the programmes teach and do not measure

The Torrent experience illustrates the value of observing actual tasks, listening to the people performing them and turning diagnosis into practical changes. Stroke training addresses another need: recognising an emergency and initiating a response. Both are company-specific activities, with different objectives and evaluation methods.

Sigma’s worldwide report publishes 2025 injury indicators but does not provide a separate Campofrío Spain result in that section. This profile therefore does not assign the global rate to the Spanish business or infer a quantified injury reduction caused by the programmes described.

Torrent–Utiel: relocation and employment negotiations

USOCV reported a workers’ meeting on 21 October 2026 at which the Torrent workforce requested information and a negotiation timetable for the future relocation to Utiel. This is a local union claim linked to the floods and temporary employment suspension, not a ruling establishing a company breach.

Europa Press reported Campofrío’s response the following day: it was finalising relocation terms and would then open negotiations with employee representatives. The company stated that the temporary employment suspension remained valid until July 2027. That response is not presented as a concluded agreement or implementation of every announced guarantee.

USOCV: Torrent–Utiel workers’ meeting, 21 October 2026 · Europa Press: relocation, workers’ concerns and company response, 22 October 2026.

Procurement and sustainability have different purposes

The company describes supplier assessment and team training for non-meat procurement, alongside animal-welfare practices in meat sourcing. These dimensions matter in a food supply chain but have purposes distinct from worker safety and health.

A supplier review or food-related accreditation does not replace assessment of a machine, a repetitive task or a maintenance operation. This profile preserves that distinction so that sustainability commitments are not treated as automatic evidence of occupational prevention.

Specialisation and changes in the business

The 2025 annual report records the announced agreement with Vall Companys to sell 75% of the live-hog processing business serving industrial customers, while retaining the retail case-ready fresh-meat business under Campofrío Frescos. At year-end 2025, the transaction had not closed and remained subject to approval.

In October 2026, Sigma envisaged 2027 as the first full year following the sale of a majority holding. That outlook is not converted here into a verified closing date. Reorganisation and the recovery of capacity after the floods must remain separate from historical 2025 figures and their reporting scopes.
