What Inditex does
Inditex is a fashion retail group headed by Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A., tax identification A15075062, whose registered office is at Avenida de la Diputación, Edificio Inditex, Arteixo, A Coruña, Spain. It designs and sells clothing, footwear, accessories and home products through stores and digital platforms. This profile covers the consolidated group; Zara is one of its brands, rather than an alternative name for the entire company. Inditex legal identification · Consolidated accounts 2025
From workshop to international retail
The corporate history traces the industrial origins to Confecciones GOA, the workshop opened by Amancio Ortega in 1963. The first Zara store opened in A Coruña in 1975, while Inditex was established as a group in 1985. These are separate milestones: 1975 is therefore not used here as the incorporation date of the parent company. International expansion began with Porto, New York and Paris between 1988 and 1990. Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka and Stradivarius joined during the following decade. The stock-market listing came in 2001, alongside the launch of Oysho; Zara Home followed in 2003. Ownership and leadership
Inditex is publicly listed and has a controlling shareholder associated with its founder. At 31 January 2026, Amancio Ortega indirectly held 59.294% through Pontegadea Inversiones and Partler Participaciones; Sandra Ortega Mera held 5.053%. These holdings refer to that reporting date. The corporate website checked on 8 November 2026 identifies Marta Ortega Pérez as chair and Óscar García Maceiras as chief executive, positions distinct from share ownership. The governance report separates the non-executive chairmanship from executive management. Corporate governance 2025 · Board of Directors
How the business works
The model combines in-house design, sourcing, manufacturer coordination, logistics and customer sales. Information from stores and e-commerce helps adjust collections during the season. Commercial integration allows orders to be fulfilled according to availability and distribution location; it does not mean that Inditex manufactures every garment itself. The accounts distinguish sales through company stores and platforms, sales to franchisees and other revenue such as royalties. Supplier factories form part of the value chain and should not automatically be counted as group facilities or employees. Business model and supply chain · Consolidated accounts 2025
Brands and retail formats
The portfolio comprises Zara, Zara Home, Lefties, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius and Oysho. Their ranges cover fashion, accessories, home products and sportswear under distinct retail identities. The 2025 sales breakdown by concept combines Zara, Zara Home and Lefties in one line. That combined figure should therefore not be attributed exclusively to Zara stores, nor should its components be added again to consolidated revenue. 2025 results filed with the CNMV · Corporate history
Markets and facilities
At the end of financial year 2025, Inditex operated 5,460 stores. Arteixo houses corporate and product functions; a new building for the Zara Woman and Zara Kids teams opened there in October 2025. The Zaragoza II distribution centre began operating during the year as part of the 2024–2025 logistics expansion plan. International commercial reach combines physical outlets and online sales: a store, a market served digitally and a supplier factory represent different operating realities. 2025 results filed with the CNMV · Sustainability 2025
Financial scale and employment
Financial year 2025 ran from 1 February 2025 to 31 January 2026. The consolidated accounts report net sales of EUR 39,864 million and net profit attributable to the parent of EUR 6,220 million. Online sales reached EUR 10,700 million, rounded in the results presentation, and are included in total sales. Year-end employment was 163,047 people across the group and its jointly controlled entities, according to note 6: this is a headcount, not full-time equivalents or employment generated at suppliers. Comparisons must retain this reporting perimeter and financial calendar. Consolidated accounts 2025 · 2025 results filed with the CNMV
Applied technology and innovation
Modernisation combines store technology, online platforms and logistics. In its 2025 year-end presentation, Inditex reported installation of new security-technology hardware across all its physical stores and described the extension to products as a subsequent rollout. Zara Try-on, a virtual fitting tool based on AI-generated images, was available in 43 markets when those results were announced. In materials, the company documents collaboration with Circ on recycling polyester-cotton blends and with Epoch on enzymes for recycling synthetic materials. These initiatives differ in purpose and maturity; they do not by themselves demonstrate improvements in occupational safety. 2025 results filed with the CNMV · Business model and supply chain
Prevention for the own workforce
The 2025 sustainability report describes ergonomic assessments, task rotation, breaks and active pauses to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. It records more than 14,762 participations in Back School and preventive and recovery programmes at logistics centres and stores. It also describes training in first aid, machinery and emergencies. These are specific activities reported by the company; participation counts do not establish unique individuals or accidents prevented. Reported occupational health and safety management-system coverage reached 94% of the workforce across 33 markets and 612 workplaces. This coverage is not extended here to all suppliers or presented as a single certification covering the entire group. Sustainability 2025
Safety at supplier factories
Workers at the Centre 2025 documents supply-chain interventions during 2023–2025. Accord-CAP Remediation addressed structural, electrical and fire hazards through technical inspections and follow-up of corrective work at 463 factories in Bangladesh and Pakistan. In Morocco, the boiler-safety project worked with 49 factories: it assessed installations, defined corrective plans and replaced hazardous practices, such as domestic gas cylinders, with appropriate industrial systems. The reported scope concerns factories participating in programmes; it does not establish that all supplier facilities achieved the same safety standard. Workers at the Centre 2025
Sustainability and business challenges
Inditex reports that 47% of the fibres used in 2025 came from recycled materials. This is a raw-material indicator, distinct from working conditions or product safety. The model faces the challenge of coordinating commercial deadlines, supplier traceability, resource use and job quality. Workers at the Centre recognises production pressure, precarious employment and heat stress among factors amplifying supply-chain risks. Sabentis’s editorial interpretation is that prevention policy becomes more useful when it identifies the workplace, hazard, corrective action and verification, rather than relying solely on counts of audits or people trained.
