Which company is covered
Lidl Spain is the business of Lidl Supermercados, S.A.U., a Spanish company with tax number A60195278 and its registered office on Calle Beat Oriol, s/n, in Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona. Its main activity is food retailing, alongside household cleaning, personal care and other non-food products. Its Spanish headquarters are distinct from Lidl’s German base in Neckarsulm.
This profile uses the financial year from 1 March 2025 to 28 February 2026. The non-financial report accompanies the management report for the company’s individual accounts. Its figures refer to that entity, rather than consolidated accounts for Lidl worldwide or the Schwarz group. Lidl Supermercados legal notice. Origins and expansion in Spain
The LEI record dates the company’s creation to December 1992; commercial operations began in 1994 with the first Spanish store in Lleida. These are separate milestones. The corporate timeline traces the Schwarz group to 1930 and the first German Lidl store to 1973, in Ludwigshafen-Mundenheim. Entry into Spain was an expansion of that organisation, rather than the independent founding of a Spanish chain.
The network reached store 100 in 1996 and store 500 in 2010. The Spanish online shop launched in 2018; by 2020 the business had 600 stores and its tenth logistics platform. These milestones explain the development of an expanding discount chain into an operation combining local retailing, international sourcing and its own logistics network. Business model and brands
The non-financial report describes a range of more than 2,500 products, 83% of them private label. The model combines central purchasing, fewer duplicate products, simpler operating processes and pallet displays for fast-moving goods. Fresh and everyday food shopping sits alongside promotional campaigns and changing non-food offers.
Non-food brands sold include Parkside for DIY and gardening, Silvercrest for household and kitchen products, Crivit for sport, Esmara for fashion, Lupilu for children and Livarno for home furnishings. These are product brands. Listing them does not identify separate subsidiaries or mean that Lidl Spain manufactures everything it sells. Group and management
Lidl Spain is part of Lidl and the Schwarz group, whose activities include retailing, production, digital services and waste recovery and recycling. Lidl and Kaufland are the group’s retail businesses; Kaufland is not a Spanish chain included in this profile’s figures.
GLEIF identifies Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG as the Spanish company’s consolidating parent. That accounting relationship does not, by itself, establish the immediate legal shareholder’s ownership percentage. The results release dated 30 September 2026 names Claus Grande as CEO of Lidl Spain. Spanish figures must not be added to group totals as though they represented independent, non-overlapping businesses. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 5. Annual sales and profit
For the year ended 28 February 2026, Lidl reported net sales of €7,641 million and profit of €274 million, equal to 3.6% of sales according to its release. Revenue also appears in the annex to the non-financial report associated with Lidl Supermercados’ individual accounts. The company rounds sales growth to 10%.
Editorial selection uses that €7,641 million in net sales for the Spanish entity. It does not use supplier purchases, exports or international group revenue. The sources establish the period and reporting entity, but this review did not obtain the complete financial statements or their audit opinion. No financial audit assurance is inferred from the non-financial report. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 4. Store network and investment
The non-financial report lists 729 stores and 14 logistics platforms in Spain, with investment of €332.1 million. The results release uses €320 million for the expansion plan: around 50 store projects, including approximately 40 new openings, across 13 autonomous communities. Madrid, Andalusia, the Valencian Community and Catalonia were among the busiest areas. Both investment figures retain their source labels; no published reconciliation is assumed.
The Martorell platform opened in 2025 with reported investment of €140 million and was serving more than 130 stores in September 2026. The release describes over 730 stores at year-end, against 729 in the non-financial report. This profile uses the report’s precise figure and records the discrepancy without inventing a timing explanation. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 5. Employment, representation and training
The year-end total of 20,895 people includes 39 interns. The contract table distinguishes 20,856 employees: 19,558 on permanent contracts and 1,298 on temporary contracts. Total headcount must not be treated as full-time equivalent jobs.
The report states 100% collective-agreement coverage excluding interns, and representation through health and safety committees or prevention representatives for 92.28% of the workforce. It records 371,420 hours of general training, excluding 10,043 hours for people who left before year-end. These cover multiple subjects, rather than a dedicated safety-training total. Digital tools in operations
Lidl Plus combines loyalty, personalised offers and digital receipts; Lidl Pay integrates card payment and coupon redemption. E-commerce provides another sales channel for private-label and third-party products. These are specific commercial applications, rather than evidence of a fully automated retail chain.
For prevention, the 2025 report describes software that centralises and connects corrective measures to replace spreadsheets and scattered records. The supplier is not identified. For waste, GreenCycle Management records requests from logistics platforms and receipt and treatment documentation supplied by waste operators. The operational value lies in linking an issue to action and evidence of completion; the report does not quantify a causal effect on accidents. Health and safety organisation
Lidl Spain’s corporate health webpage states that all stores, warehouses and offices have ISO 45001 certification, linking its system to occupational and psychosocial risk assessment and preventive training. This is attributed to the company: the original certificate, its number, issuer and expiry date were not consulted in this review.
The reported certification and 92.28% coverage by safety representatives measure different things. The former concerns the management system and its sites; the latter concerns workforce representation. Reported wellbeing-programme coverage likewise does not establish an absence of harm. For a supermarket and warehouse network, useful analysis connects assessment, corrective action, participation and measured outcomes. Occupational health and safety: Lidl Spain statement. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 63. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 58.
Ergonomics and psychosocial health
The report describes nationwide ergonomic assessments conducted in 2025, with risks mostly classified as low or medium according to the company and proposed measures mainly focused on posture. It also reports incorporating a gender perspective into risk assessment. These describe activities; they do not establish that every task has been adapted or that musculoskeletal disorders have disappeared.
The health programme includes round-the-clock telephone psychological support, seven days a week, for employees and household family members, plus physiotherapy at warehouses and head offices. Emergency response, fire safety, first-aid and defibrillator training are cited, alongside stress-management and physical-activity campaigns. Physiotherapy is not presented as available at every store. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 58.
Accidents: figures and denominators
For 2025 the report records 1,151 occupational accidents among its own workforce: 769 involving women and 382 involving men. It publishes a rate of 33.14 lost-time accidents per million hours worked; the frequency definition excludes commuting accidents. Although the aggregate table uses the label “recordable”, the rate’s description and denominator concern lost-time accidents. It is not recast as a general rate covering every recordable incident.
Frequency rates are 34.15 for women and 31.28 for men. Severity is expressed as lost days per thousand hours: 0.92 and 0.69 respectively. The report records 30,630 lost days, zero fatalities in the company’s own workforce and zero among subcontracted workers on its construction sites. The latter scope does not automatically cover the entire supply chain. It also records 14 occupational-disease cases, 13 in women and one in men, predominantly musculoskeletal according to the report’s note. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 59. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 60.
Limits to safety comparisons
The 2024 tables do not reconcile: the breakdown by sex adds up to 1,024 accidents, while the aggregate table shows 1,042. The overall frequency of 39.80 is also not explained by the sex-specific rates of 31.08 and 33.76. This profile therefore does not claim an overall improvement in 2025 frequency based on that comparison.
The disaggregated figures show different directions: women’s frequency rises from 31.08 to 34.15, while men’s falls from 33.76 to 31.28. The report also restates 2024 lost days to 28,584 because the earlier disclosure counted cases instead of days. These qualifications matter when assessing trends and prevent the existence of programmes from becoming an automatic conclusion about their effectiveness. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 59. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 60.
Energy, transport and circularity
The 2025 energy table reports 496,312 MWh and a 92.63% renewable share. Its note specifies December 2024 to November 2025, a different period from the financial year. The annex places 469,472 MWh under 2025, whereas the main table assigns that amount to 2023. This profile uses the main table and does not calculate intensity from the conflicting annex.
For transport, Lidl reports adding two electric trucks in the Canary Islands and using higher-capacity vehicles carrying up to 66 pallets in a duo-trailer and 51 in a mega-trailer, alongside return-trip optimisation. For circularity, REset Resources broadens the group strategy beyond plastic, while GreenCycle Management provides documentary waste tracking. These are measures and targets, rather than proof of emission-free transport or complete circularity. No total carbon figure is presented: the emissions tables contain dashes for Scope 2 and zero totals incompatible with the published Scope 1 and 3 figures. Suppliers and customer relations
The report identifies 811 domestic suppliers. The results release attributes approximately €8,400 million in Spanish-product purchases and €4,255 million in exports to Lidl’s European network. These sourcing and export measures have a different scope from the company’s net sales and are not added to them. Launched in 2025, Lidl Supplier Academy is presented as a training and financing initiative intended to support more than 400 private-label suppliers; that purpose does not itself demonstrate outcomes achieved by all of them.
For customer service, the report counts 360,764 complaints in 2025 and classifies 99.5% as non-serious under its own criteria. That classification does not mean all complaints were resolved and does not replace product-safety controls. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 6. The Monsieur Cuisine litigation
The dispute with Vorwerk over the Monsieur Cuisine appliance illustrates an industrial-property risk associated with products in the range. On 13 January 2022, Section 15 of the Barcelona Provincial Court allowed Lidl’s appeal, reversed the judgment issued by Barcelona Commercial Court 5 on 19 January 2021 and dismissed Vorwerk’s claim. It also upheld Lidl’s counterclaim and declared Spanish patent ES 2301589, the Spanish validation of European patent EP 1269898, invalid.
This profile records that appellate outcome, available through WIPO Lex, rather than treating the overturned first-instance ruling as still operative. It does not turn the decision into certification of every Lidl product or a general conclusion about other disputes. No undocumented later procedural status is asserted. Barcelona Provincial Court judgment 14/2022, WIPO Lex.
Developments after year-end
In July 2026, Lidl announced the signing of its fourth collective agreement with CCOO and UGT, running until 2030. It reported planned expenditure of more than €280 million over four years and a minimum cumulative pay increase of 15%. These are commitments under the new employment framework, rather than increases already completed at the February 2026 year-end.
In September 2026 the company also outlined investment of over €440 million and more than 60 store projects for financial 2026. This profile separates those plans from 2025 investment and sites. Current management and developments were checked through 8 November 2026; annual figures retain their own reporting period. Fourth collective agreement signed, July 2026. What this case helps explain
The combination of stores, warehouses and international sourcing allows several levels of prevention to be examined: task design, workforce participation, action tracking and supplier oversight. Lidl Spain documents specific tools—ergonomic assessments, psychological support, representation and action-management software—alongside harm indicators.
The editorial reading is to assess those tools against their scope and outcomes. A certified system, policy or application does not replace a consistent statistical series. The report’s discrepancies show why definitions, hours worked, covered populations and restatements need checking before companies are compared or effectiveness is attributed to an initiative. This interpretation is not an external assessment of every site. Lidl Spain 2025 sustainability and non-financial report · PDF p. 52.
