Palladium Hotel Group

Palladium Hotel Group is the hotel business identity of Grupo Empresas Matutes, whose origins are in Ibiza. It combines owned and leased hotel operations with third-party management through holiday, urban and entertainment-oriented brands. Understanding its scale requires distinguishing the operator Palladium Gestión, S.L.U. from the consolidated group headed by Residencial Marina, S.L.

Which business this profile covers

Palladium Hotel Group (PHG) identifies Empresas Matutes’ (GEM) hotel management business. The website belongs to Palladium Gestión, S.L.U., registered at Avenida Bartolomé Roselló, 18, Ibiza. Residencial Marina, S.L., registered at the same address, heads a group also active in property, events, beverages, aquaculture and other services. These are related entities with different activities and accounting boundaries. Palladium: website owner’s legal identity; Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 14); Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 15).

The economic reference used here is the Residencial Marina consolidated group. Hotel portfolio figures are identified as PHG, while workforce and environmental indicators retain GEM’s stated boundaries. This combined treatment avoids counting the same group again under the Matutes name. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 14).

From Ibiza to an international portfolio

The hotel business developed by Abel Matutes Juan and his family began in Ibiza in the 1960s, subsequently expanding to the Canary Islands and Caribbean. The 2002 Riviera Maya opening expanded its Mexican presence; the 2011 agreement with Yann Pissenem created Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel. Palladium Hotel Group became the business identity in 2012. Palladium: corporate history.

The business history is distinct from each company’s incorporation date. Residencial Marina was incorporated as a public limited company on 8 November 1975 and agreed to convert into a private limited company in June 2000. The non-financial report dates the consolidation of separate property and hotel operating structures through Palladium Gestión to 2020. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 14); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 12).

The 2025 report places that reorganisation within the move from hotel ownership towards a structure also able to manage properties belonging to other investors. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 12).

Family ownership and group companies

The 9 October 2025 MARF memorandum states that the Matutes Prats family directly or indirectly controls Residencial Marina’s capital. It identifies Carmen, María and Estela Matutes Prats and Aballist, S.L.U. among the shareholders. Commercial paper issued on MARF is debt financing; it does not itself make the parent an equity-listed company. Residencial Marina: October 2025 MARF memorandum (p. 19); Residencial Marina: October 2025 MARF memorandum (p. 20).

Companies with different functions include Fiesta Hotels & Resorts, associated with hotel assets and shareholdings; Only You Hotels; and the management company Palladium Gestión. The CNMC expressly described these companies’ relationship with Residencial Marina in 2026. A hotel brand should be distinguished from the building’s owner and the employing entity. CNMC: report on Palladium and Palatinus Mare (p. 3).

How the business earns revenue

The model combines property investment, hotel operations, leases and management contracts. At an owned hotel, the group bears both property investment and operating responsibilities; under third-party management, the owner retains economic functions while the operator provides contracted services. The CNMC’s Palatinus Mare report shows that even pricing policy could require the owner’s annual approval: management did not automatically establish corporate control. CNMC: report on Palladium and Palatinus Mare (p. 2).

The 2025 accounts recognise hotel services daily and distinguish accommodation and, where applicable, food and beverage obligations. Palladium Travel Club recognises revenue as promised stays are used or expire. This explains why advance receipts, reservations, managed business volume and accounting revenue can differ. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 87).

Hotel brands and guest propositions

The 2025 portfolio included Grand Palladium and TRS holiday resorts; Palladium Hotels and Fiesta in other formats; urban Only YOU hotels; and luxury BLESS properties. Ushuaïa and The Unexpected combine accommodation with music, dining and entertainment. Family Selection and The Signature Level are propositions within particular hotels, rather than separate companies simply because they have commercial names. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 17); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 12); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 19); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 20).

The report also includes hotels operated under the Hard Rock brand through franchise arrangements, without attributing ownership of that brand to PHG. The portfolio changes over time: the document anticipated the Ibiza Hard Rock hotel’s change in 2026, and the commercial website reviewed in November lists BLESS Ibiza The Site and BLESS Barcelona. The October 2026 offer documents the latter’s commercial availability without retrospectively changing the year-end 2025 figures. Palladium: BLESS Barcelona, October 2026 offer; Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 19).

Locations and the meaning of the portfolio

At year-end 2025, the accounts list 42 hotels: 33 owned, 7 managed and 2 leased. The non-financial statement clarifies that one was under refurbishment and the 41 operating hotels comprised 32 owned, 7 managed and 2 leased properties, with 13,798 rooms, including 11,955 owned rooms. The figures of 42 and 41 therefore describe inventory and operating hotels respectively. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 12); Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 15).

That year’s hotel portfolio covered Spain, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Italy, Brazil and the United States. It combined beach destinations such as Ibiza, Riviera Maya, Costa Mujeres and Punta Cana with cities including Madrid, Málaga, Valencia, Seville, Barcelona and New York. Only YOU Atocha, on Madrid’s Paseo de la Infanta Isabel, illustrates the urban format; the profile image shows that hotel rather than the group’s headquarters. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 15); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 22); Only YOU Atocha: 2025 hotel fact sheet (p. 2).

Consolidated accounts and managed business

Residencial Marina and its subsidiaries reported consolidated net turnover of EUR 1,347,800,254 for 2025. Operating profit was EUR 193,319,407 and consolidated profit EUR 138,436,295; EUR 29,207,205 of the latter was attributable to the parent and EUR 109,229,090 to non-controlling interests. Net turnover excludes EUR 19,042,907 of other operating income and EUR 12,192,663 of own work capitalised. These are figures for the whole GEM group, rather than Palladium Gestión alone. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 10).

The accounting breakdown includes EUR 899,581,637 of hotel revenue, EUR 275,786,950 from events and EUR 54,759,917 from Palladium Travel Club, alongside other businesses. These lines are also distinct from the total sales of all managed hotels. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 87).

Separately, PHG reported EUR 1.162 billion of managed business volume in 2025. That corporate metric is retained as stated: it is neither added to the parent’s accounts nor presented as the operator’s consolidated revenue. Palladium: release on 2025 managed business volume.

Workforce and seasonality

The consolidated accounts report an average of 14,425 people employed by the group during 2025. The year-end breakdown totals 13,021 people: 7,593 men and 5,428 women. These are person counts, not identified as full-time equivalents. Summing the non-financial statement’s categories gives the same year-end total; its reference to more than 16,000 active people during the year reflects seasonality and does not replace the annual average or closing count. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 95); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 79); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 111).

The social and environmental reporting boundary includes companies under Residencial Marina’s operational control and excludes management-only businesses without asset ownership and minority interests without operational control. GEM’s workforce therefore cannot automatically be extended to PHG’s entire commercial portfolio. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 109).

Organisation and leadership

The structure described in the 2025 non-financial statement separates property and other businesses from hotel operations. Abel Matutes Juan is identified as chairman of the property side, with Salvador Ortiz de Montellano as CEO; Abel Matutes Prats chairs PHG and Jesús Sobrino is its CEO. These business roles should be distinguished from membership of each legal company’s board. The documentation was checked on 8 November 2026. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 28).

Technology in hotel operations

In 2025, the group documented customer-service projects, commercial-channel analysis, digital check-in and room operations management. Its Salesforce deployment included communications and customer case management, while eHousekeep addressed operating coordination. These are company-reported actions; no unproven quantified productivity or occupational health improvement is attributed to them here. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 26); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 27).

A more bounded example was the SAP Service & Asset Manager pilot in Riviera Maya, run between July and November 2025 for goods receipt, picking and inventory. The report proposed assessing its results before expansion in 2026–2027. Its pilot status matters: a trial at one destination does not establish deployment throughout the portfolio. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 27).

Documented prevention in hotels and offices

GEM describes in-house, external or shared prevention services depending on the site, job and installation assessments, health surveillance and training in emergencies, first aid, work at height, confined spaces, electricity and machinery. The programme includes ergonomic and psychosocial factors alongside conditions such as noise and ventilation. These mechanisms are reported for the stated boundary, without claiming a group-wide ISO 45001 certification that the document does not establish. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 90).

The 2025 milestones include completion of the housekeeping ergonomics study begun in 2024, measuring effort and time by task. The report also documents Intral for identifying OHS legal requirements at Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres, stronger prevention responsibilities in the Americas and Only YOU’s gradual inclusion in the shared prevention service. Expansion of coordination tools and Osafety was planned for 2026, rather than reported as a completed 2025 outcome. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 91).

What the injury figures show

The 2025 non-financial statement’s annex reports 116 lost-time accidents among men and 128 among women in Spain. Their respective frequencies are 37.77 and 41.05 per million actual hours worked. The published formula uses occupational accidents or illnesses with lost time; this is not a rate per hundred people. Severity is expressed as days lost per thousand hours worked. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 124).

The same table records two male fatalities in the Dominican Republic in 2025, compared with zero in its 2024 comparative. That table provides neither circumstances nor a contractor breakdown, so causes and liability are not inferred. The figures belong to GEM’s defined own-operations boundary; they do not support a “zero accidents” claim or a universal outcome covering every managed hotel. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 124); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 109).

Employment relations and development

The group reports 12 internal communications concerning possible workplace harassment in 2025. It describes confidential handling with safeguards, rather than 12 cases established by a ruling. The report includes manager training on harassment prevention and equality plans at Spanish companies. Reading these disclosures requires distinguishing the existence of a reporting channel, receipt of a report and the investigation’s outcome. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 87).

On training, the report describes consolidation of the learning platform in Spain and development and internal-mobility programmes. Expansion to the Americas was presented as a subsequent stage. Human-resources awards cited by the company do not replace risk assessment or themselves certify preventive conditions in individual jobs. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 84).

Water, energy and measurement boundaries

GEM’s own hotel operations reported 16,327 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent in Scope 1 and 13,985 tonnes in Scope 2 for 2025, totalling 30,312 tonnes. Hotel intensity was 10.61 kg CO₂ equivalent per occupied room-night. The calculation covers GEM-owned complexes in Europe and the Americas and Scopes 1 and 2, rather than the entire value chain or managed portfolio. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 58); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 56).

Reported actions include water treatment and reuse, consumption monitoring and the 2025 Must Energy pilot in Costa Mujeres and Punta Cana. Hotel water consumption was 1.70 m³ per occupied room-night within the own-property boundary. The report acknowledges that its climate targets had not undergone formal SBTi validation; future targets remain distinct from measured results. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 63); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 61); Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 56).

Ownership changes and financial challenges

The CNMC cleared Fiesta Hotels & Resorts’ acquisition of sole control of Palatinus Mare on 18 February 2026. The accounts’ subsequent-events note confirms that the remaining 75.5% was acquired on 27 February for EUR 139.790 million, taking ownership to 100%. The transaction involved the owners of BLESS Ibiza Cala Nova, TRS Ibiza and Grand Palladium Sicilia. Regulatory clearance and completion of the purchase are distinguished here. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 99); CNMC: Palatinus Mare clearance, 18 February 2026 (p. 1); CNMC: report on Palladium and Palatinus Mare (p. 4).

Deloitte issued an unmodified opinion on the 2025 consolidated accounts, dated 15 June 2026. It identified the financial position as a key audit matter: negative working capital of EUR 86.531 million, with covenants met at year-end and cash-flow forecasts and available facilities as mitigating factors. This is neither a declaration of insolvency nor a guarantee of future performance. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 4); Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 2); Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 6).

The accounts also describe a 2025 Mexican tax assessment against Desarrollos DINE concerning 2021 income tax and VAT, challenged through a revocation appeal with enforcement suspended pending its resolution at the accounts’ preparation date. The associated provision was EUR 7.002 million. This is presented as a group-disclosed contingency, without attributing a later outcome absent from the reviewed sources. Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 86); Residencial Marina: 2025 consolidated accounts (p. 70).

What this case contributes to prevention

Sabentis’ editorial reading highlights three issues: measuring the actual effort of cleaning and preparing rooms; coordinating maintenance and external contractors while retaining each entity’s responsibilities; and distinguishing individual wellbeing from interventions on workloads, schedules and employment relationships. These are preventive applications drawn from the case, not outcomes attributed to PHG. Hotel ownership, brand, employing company and statistical boundary should be identified before comparing indicators. Empresas Matutes: 2025 non-financial statement (p. 91).

Frequently asked questions

Are Palladium Hotel Group and Empresas Matutes the same?

PHG identifies GEM’s hotel business. Palladium Gestión is the operator, while Residencial Marina heads the consolidated group, which includes other businesses. This profile retains those distinctions. [1] · [2]

Why are there two economic figures for 2025?

EUR 1,347,800,254 is consolidated net turnover of Residencial Marina and its subsidiaries. EUR 1.162 billion is the managed business volume reported by PHG. Their boundaries and definitions differ and they are not added together. [1] · [2] · [3]

Does the group own every hotel?

No. There were 41 operating hotels in 2025: 32 owned, 7 managed and 2 leased; another hotel was under refurbishment. A property’s brand does not by itself identify its owner. [1] · [2]

Which specific occupational prevention action is documented?

The 2025 non-financial statement describes completion of a housekeeping ergonomics study measuring effort and time by task. It also identifies Intral at Costa Mujeres for prevention-related legal requirements. It does not publish an injury reduction attributable to those actions. [1] · [2]

Do the OHS indicators cover every managed hotel?

That should not be assumed. GEM excludes management-only companies without asset ownership and minority holdings without operational control from its social and environmental boundary. The table records two fatalities in the Dominican Republic in 2025 without describing their circumstances. [1] · [2] · [3]

What changed with Palatinus Mare in 2026?

Fiesta Hotels & Resorts increased its holding from 24.5% to 100% after buying the remaining interest on 27 February 2026. It obtained sole control of the owners of BLESS Ibiza Cala Nova, TRS Ibiza and Grand Palladium Sicilia, which the group had already managed. [1] · [2] · [3] · [4]
