One company within the Samsung business group
Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is a South Korean company headquartered in Suwon. This profile concerns the company and its consolidated subsidiaries, rather than every business using the Samsung name. Its accounts include Samsung Display and Harman. Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung C&T and other related companies have their own activities and boundaries. Confusing the group brand with one legal entity can duplicate sales or attribute another company’s practices to this business.
From television manufacturing to semiconductors
Samsung Electronics was incorporated on 13 January 1969 following a promoters’ meeting involving Lee Byung-chull. Its corporate history describes early technical training in Japan and black-and-white television manufacturing. The company listed in 1975 and progressively expanded into appliances, telecommunications, memory and other components. This company’s founding year should be distinguished from the earlier origins of the wider Samsung business group.

Finished products and components
The business combines two industrial models. Device eXperience, or DX, sells finished products including Galaxy phones, televisions and appliances. Device Solutions, or DS, manufactures memory, operates semiconductor foundries and develops System LSI chips. Samsung Display produces panels, while Harman supplies automotive electronics and audio. Samsung Electronics can therefore sell a consumer device while supplying components to other manufacturers. Its divisions trade internally, so gross segment sales cannot be added without eliminating intragroup transactions.

The complete 2025 financial year
For calendar 2025, the consolidated group reported revenue of KRW333.6 trillion, operating profit of KRW43.6 trillion and profit of KRW45.2 trillion, rounded to one decimal. Exact amounts appear in the audited K-IFRS accounts; these are neither US dollars nor totals for every Samsung business. Revenue increased 10.9% over 2024. The sustainability report counts 259,149 employees at year-end, excluding categories including partner-dispatched personnel, employees on leave, interns and full-time students. This is its published headcount, not a census of the entire supply chain.

Geographical presence and facilities
The 2026 sustainability report describes an operational presence in 76 countries and lists 221 sites, including 33 manufacturing and 40 R&D locations. These figures use that report’s stated boundary; they are not a count of all consolidated legal entities.
Co-CEOs and ownership
Executive leadership is shared by Young Hyun Jun and TM Roh, also named Tae Moon Roh. Jun leads DS and Roh leads DX; the November 2025 announcement formalised the co-CEO structure. Year-end 2025 ownership disclosures identify Samsung Life Insurance as the major shareholder and include Samsung C&T and Lee family members among related parties. Those holdings do not make every Samsung company a consolidated Electronics subsidiary. Ordinary and preference shares also have different voting rights.

Research serving several markets
Research covers memory for new AI workloads, chip-manufacturing processes, connected devices and software capabilities. The 2025 accounts recognise approximately KRW37.7 trillion in R&D expense. Harman acquired Sound United during 2025, adding brands including Bowers & Wilkins, Denon and Marantz to its audio business. These are industrial and commercial initiatives. Any preventive value needs separate evidence: more computing capacity, automation or connectivity does not itself demonstrate fewer injuries.

Manufacturing requires specific controls
Preventive needs differ between an office, an assembly line and a semiconductor plant. The 2026 report describes hazardous-substance substitution, annual review of an internal substances list and equipment changes to limit chemical exposure. DS applies Process Safety Management to equipment handling higher-risk chemicals, addressing fires, explosions and leaks. The practical lesson is to identify the task and exposure before selecting controls; one corporate policy does not erase differences between processes.
Digital pilots and risk assessment
DX reports a mobile AI-supported data-monitoring and risk-assessment system piloted at several sites, with expansion planned. That wording matters: a pilot is not full deployment. DS sets out unmanned robot inspections and IoT monitoring as aims within its smart-safety approach. The company trained 2,972 risk-assessment specialists in 2025. These are documented activities and capabilities; the report does not establish a specific injury reduction caused by them.
Ergonomics, response and psychological support
The described prevention measures include exercise centres for musculoskeletal disorders, assistive devices and onsite care for employees experiencing pain. For mental health, Samsung reports 34 internal coaching centres and clinics in Korea and 31 coaching centres overseas, with some units using external employee-assistance programmes. It also specifies CPR training every two years and practice booths. Availability and effective use are different measures, so these services are not presented as demonstrated clinical outcomes.
Reading indicators within their boundaries
The published series reports LTIR of 0.018 in 2025, compared with 0.022 in 2024. Supplier LTIR rises from 0.035 to 0.062, but that second indicator covers Korean suppliers working at Samsung sites. The note includes workplace injuries causing at least one day of absence and excludes daily-life incidents. Without aligning denominators, populations and criteria, these figures cannot rank Samsung against other businesses. The employee trend also cannot be extrapolated to every contractor.
Certification and suppliers
Samsung’s 2026 report states that ISO 45001 certification of its manufacturing sites was completed in 2025. This is cited as the report’s statement for that boundary; this profile has not individually checked each certificate’s validity. Its supplier indicator for occupational health and safety management certification, including ISO 45001 or alternatives, reaches 66% in 2025. That does not mean all suppliers are certified. DS plans consulting and audit support for uncertified suppliers and internal-auditor training for those already certified.
Giheung: a specific regulatory investigation
South Korea’s nuclear safety commission, NSSC, investigated radiation exposure involving two workers at Giheung on 27 May 2024. Its September technical findings identified a non-functioning interlock, a difficult-to-read warning light, and gaps in maintenance approval and supervision. Dose assessment confirmed exposure limits were exceeded. The 2025 business report records payment of a KRW16.5 million fine for inadequate radiation-harm prevention and describes manager training, specialist maintenance and electronic dosimeters in response. Describing measures does not replace verification of their effectiveness.

Environmental targets on different timelines
The strategy distinguishes DX’s 2030 net-zero Scope 1 and 2 target from DS’s 2050 target, reflecting different industrial requirements. The report gives DX a 94.8% renewable-energy transition rate at year-end 2025; that is not a rate for every Samsung company or evidence of absent workplace risk. Explora should keep energy efficiency, circularity, process safety and occupational health distinct, even when managed together.
What prevention teams can learn from this case
The case connects three levels: safe equipment design, control of maintenance work and outcome monitoring for a defined population. Giheung shows why an interlock, warning signal and authorisation must function together. Digital pilots raise another requirement: check coverage, alert quality and human response before attributing outcomes. This editorial interpretation draws on published facts and is not certification, a commercial recommendation or evidence of a Samsung Electronics–Sabentis relationship.
