A framework for agricultural work
Decree 617/97 approves a specific Argentine hygiene and safety regulation for agricultural activity. Article 3 defines its relationship with Decree 351/79 through the express referrals provided. A rural operation should therefore not be reviewed as though every general industrial provision transferred to the sector without distinction.
Prevention integrated into the operation
The regulation places risk identification and reduction within everyday activity. It includes employer responsibilities and workers’ duties to use equipment appropriately. ART involvement contributes advice and follow-up within the system without displacing the employer’s duty to organise safe conditions and provide necessary resources.
Rural tasks and conditions
The combination of machinery, tools, animals, products and outdoor work requires analysis of specific activities. Distances, access and conditions in facilities connected with the work also matter. Agricultural risks change by season and task: a generic list does not replace an assessment of the operation and its activities.
Information, maintenance and response
Training must enable understanding of task risks and planned measures. Equipment condition, guarding of mechanisms and first-aid organisation suited to the risk also matter. Work in isolation or far from services requires planned communications and access to assistance within the applicable requirements and the establishment’s actual conditions.
Seasonal preparation example
In a hypothetical example, an agricultural operation brings in temporary workers for a season. Before starting, it reviews equipment, routes and assigned tasks, and explains procedures through understandable demonstrations. The responsible person checks that instructions match the equipment used. Information supplied during an earlier season does not demonstrate that a new worker knows the current risks.
Read alongside supplementary regulations
The official version incorporates amendments and refers to the SRT’s powers to develop requirements. The agricultural labour framework includes other regulations requiring review according to the situation. This entry does not prescribe particular equipment or treatments for every operation. Verification must identify the requirement, activity and evidence, avoiding use of a historical reference as a guarantee of complete compliance.
