Institutional position and purpose
IESS presents SGRT as protection for insured people and employers facing occupational contingencies. Its purpose combines action before harm occurs with measures addressing its consequences. This relationship with employers does not remove their duties concerning prevention, notification and provision of evidence when an accident or potentially occupational illness is investigated.
Accident and disease notifications
The portal provides online reporting routes for employers and insured members. Official information also envisages notifications from third parties and requires identification of the case and supporting documents. A notification brings the contingency to the insurer’s attention; it does not itself establish a favourable decision on occupational causation or every benefit requested.
Assessment of occupational origin
The provincial unit evaluates the relationship between the event and work under the applicable rules. When a worker or third party reports the case, the employer is notified and must provide the required records. For suspected occupational disease, clinical and exposure histories matter; symptoms or timing alone do not establish a causal occupational relationship.
Prevention and training
SGRT provides continuing training and resources addressing workplace risks, including psychosocial factors and ergonomics. These activities support occupational safety and health before harm occurs. General training complements identification and control of the specific hazards of each activity, which remain responsibilities of those managing the workplace and its conditions.
Care, rehabilitation and return to work
Protection includes healthcare and cash benefits under the relevant conditions, together with physical and mental rehabilitation and return-to-work support. This approach recognises that recovery may require rebuilding capabilities and facilitating a return to activity as well as treating the injury. The appropriate benefit depends on the recognised contingency and its consequences, rather than the diagnostic label alone.
Frequently asked questions
Are IESS and SGRT separate insurers?
No. SGRT is an insurance component within IESS. This profile identifies its specialised function within the same institution.
Does filing a notification confirm occupational origin?
No. Reporting starts the process; the competent unit assesses causation and the applicable benefits.
