Purpose of registration

The Registro de empresas con riesgo por amianto identifies companies undertaking activities covered by Royal Decree 847/2026. Applications go to the labour authority where the registered office is located; foreign companies register where their first job will take place. RERA concerns asbestos risk, whereas the Register of Accredited Companies belongs to another regime. Registration in one does not automatically replace duties under the other or demonstrate compliance with every requirement applicable to a contract.

Three-year validity and renewal

Article 18 establishes three-year validity, renewable for equal periods. Renewal is requested during the six months before expiry using the relevant form and supplying the approval decision for the latest work plan, approved within the three years preceding the renewal application. Expiry without a renewal application leads to removal from the register. The company therefore needs to track its file and dates rather than relying indefinitely on possession of an old certificate.

Companies registered before the reform

For companies already registered when Royal Decree 847/2026 entered into force, its second transitional provision requires a renewal request within six months of that date, 24 October 2026. Failure to apply within that period results in removal. This exceptional period should not be confused with the ordinary window before expiry. Calculation and submission need checking against administrative rules and the calendar applicable to the competent electronic office, rather than an informal reminder alone.

Registration and approval of work

Registration does not automatically approve every intervention. The decree allows an initial registration application and first work plan to be submitted together, subject to rules concerning the location of the work. Changes to declared information must also be communicated. Before commissioning removal, examine company identity, registration status and work-specific documentation; a RERA number alone does not establish complete preventive compliance for the proposed intervention and its actual circumstances.

Keep the administrative file usable

A company can organise its application, submission receipt, requests for correction, decision, approved plans and next review date. Responsibility for notifications and correction deadlines needs assignment. A change of administrator without transfer of the file can cause a missed deadline while technical activity continues. Procedural details and effects should be checked with the labour authority; this entry does not replace its decision or assessment of a particular job.
