What SCTR covers
Seguro Complementario de Trabajo de Riesgo is protection within the Peruvian system for workers covered by high-risk activities. Taking out coverage depends on the activity and applicable legal circumstances. It must not be confused with generic private accident insurance or the employer’s full range of preventive obligations.
Two components to distinguish
SCTR includes healthcare and pension coverage. The former addresses health consequences of occupational accidents and diseases. The latter provides financial benefits linked to disability, survivors and funeral expenses under its conditions. Evidence of one component does not allow the other to be treated as automatically verified.
Determining who is covered
The organisation must compare the activity actually performed with the applicable list and rules. Jobs, sites, travel and contractor involvement should be reviewed, rather than considering only the enterprise’s trading name. SUNAFIL’s official information explains the employer’s duty and funding of both components. The decision requires identifying the specific legal situation and the entity providing each benefit.
Checking documents and periods
A useful review links covered people, dates, declared activity and insurance documents. Responsibilities must be assigned for additions, removals and changes, alongside an accessible accident procedure. Preventive documentation and insurance documentation have related but non-interchangeable purposes. An updated file helps identify interruptions or identification errors.
Review example
In a hypothetical example, an enterprise adds personnel to an operation covered by SCTR. Before work begins, it verifies both components and inclusion of the people for the intended period. If a certificate identifies only healthcare coverage, it requests the pension documentation. The check does not end upon receipt of a document: it also verifies that activity, names and dates match.
Insurance does not remove the duty to prevent
Coverage addresses certain consequences but does not replace risk assessment, controls, training or investigation of harm. Nor does every injury lead to the same financial benefit: classification, conditions and procedure matter. Cases are processed using information from the insurer and competent bodies, avoiding promises of amounts or automatic recognition based on a brief description.
