An assembly designed for its purpose
Placing switches and sockets inside a box is not enough. The board must suit its intended use, available supply and connected equipment. In Spain, ITC-BT-33 and its application guide address temporary construction installations; the assembly and its installation must satisfy the applicable requirements.
Documentation must identify the source, circuits and information needed to operate and maintain distribution. Where several supplies exist, including temporary generation, their coordination must prevent hazardous interconnection. Protective-device selection and earthing arrangements require competent design rather than decisions made by individual equipment users.
Location and environment
Position the board securely, with access for intended operations and protection against impacts, accumulating water and moving plant. Enclosures, outlets and cable entries must retain their actual protection in service, rather than merely displaying a suitable rating when the equipment was originally purchased.
An open door, broken cover or trapped cable can defeat the original protection. Managing Electrical risk also requires consideration of nearby water cleaning, dust-producing tasks, storage and changing routes. Materials must not obstruct access to the means of disconnecting the supply when it is needed.
Cables and extensions
Cable routes should reduce mechanical damage and trip hazards. Repeatedly adding extension leads or connecting new equipment without checking capacity and protection is not controlled expansion. Avoid improvised joints and domestic components that are unsuitable for the environment or the anticipated site conditions.
A transportable board is different from one designed to move while in service. Relocation must follow its design and instructions under controlled arrangements. Moving it elsewhere can change cable lengths, environmental exposure and protective conditions, even if exactly the same tools remain connected afterwards.
Review throughout construction
Assign responsibilities for user checks, inspections and electrical testing by competent people according to risk and conditions. Damage, water entry or repeated trips require investigation and removal from use where appropriate; protective devices must not be defeated to keep working. When permanent circuits are energised, communicate which parts have changed status and coordinate withdrawal of temporary distribution so that contractors do not rely on outdated assumptions about isolation.
