How to create and manage a risk assessment (IER/IPER)
The risk assessment module is the core of preventive management at Sabentis. It allows for the identification of hazards, the evaluation of risks, and the definition of corrective and preventive measures with integrated monitoring. The entire process is documented and traceable for inspections and audits.
IER vs IPER: which one to use
Sabentis allows you to work with two approaches depending on the maturity of your organization’s preventive system:
IER — Risk Identification and Assessment
It stems directly from known risk, without formally documenting the hazard that originates it. Useful for periodic reviews and organizations with already identified risks.
IPER — Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
More comprehensive process: first identifies the hazard family, then the specific hazard, the risk factor, and finally the risk. Recommended for mature or audited systems.
Step 1 — Create the study
Every assessment is part of a study. A study defines the temporal and organizational context in which risks are identified and assessed.
- Go to the card Evaluations.
- Click New evaluation.
- Fill in the study details: name and code, type of location to be evaluated (company, centers, places, positions, occupations, tasks…), start and end dates of validity, methodology, responsible party and reviewers.
- Save the study.
Available methodologies: INSST, FINE, NTP-330, GTC-45 and IPERC. The methodology determines how the risk level is calculated.
Step 2 — Identify the risks
Within the study, add the risks to be assessed for each location within the scope. For each risk, define the probability and severity according to the chosen methodology. Sabentis automatically calculates the resulting risk level.
Step 3 — Define preventive and corrective measures
For each risk, associate measures following the standard hierarchy:
- Elimination of the hazard.
- Substitution.
- Engineering controls.
- Administrative controls.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Each measure has an assigned person responsible, a deadline, and a monitoring status. This transforms the evaluation into a dynamic action plan, not a static document.
Step 4 — Notify the worker of the risks
Once the assessment is complete, Sabentis allows the risks and instructions to be communicated directly to the worker through the Worker Portal. The worker reviews and digitally signs them, providing proof that they were informed.
Useful additional features
Location risks
Consult all the risks identified in a specific center, place or position without going into study by study.
Risks per worker
See all the risks that affect a specific worker, inherited from their company, center and position.
Inheritance of risks
Risks automatically propagate through the organizational hierarchy. A risk defined at the company level applies to all its centers and positions.
